A low-pressure system over the British Isles will continue to intensify and bring a strong cold front to our region on Thursday. Before the front will arrive in the afternoon, a stormy south foehn wind will pick up in the mountains, causing southerly barrier effects to build up on the main Alpine ridge. From here, but also soon from the west, heavy precipitation will arrive as the disturbance will pass through. At the same time, colder air will seep in, causing the snow line to drop below 2000 meters above sea level and even below 1500 meters above sea level by Friday morning. On Friday itself, it will remain very windy, and the day will start with residual showers, which will linger longest in the western foothills of the mountains. Overall, however, the weather will calm down and the sun will break through, especially over the inner Alpine valleys. The weekend weather will continue to be early winter-like. The details are not yet clear, but overall the weather will remain quite changeable. With brisk southwesterly to westerly winds, foehn effects bringing sunshine and passing clouds, which will occasionally lead to isolated showers, will battle for dominance. At the start of the new week, the wind will veer more strongly to the northwest and pick up again. This will cause temperatures to drop further, with the snow line settling at around 1000 meters above sea level.
