Galtür calls to the 49th Silvretta Ferwall March
High-alpine mountain march with tradition and a view: On 20 August, participants of the 49th International Silvretta Ferwall March will explore the picturesque alpine world, which Hemingway already raved about.
As one of the most challenging but also most scenic, high-alpine mountain walks in Europe, the Silvretta Ferwall March will be held on 20 August 2022 for the 49th time. Four distances of varying challenge, including a "Marathon-Route" for ambitious hikers with great stamina, await the international participants in Tyrol's first climatic health-resort. Good to know: the event is not a competition for the fastest time. The great objective is to explore the unique natural backdrop of Galtür, which Hemingway already raved about as part of a large "hiking-community" and to have a fun time together. No matter if as a family with pram on a treasure hunt, teenagers eager to get their hands on a medal or pros racking up the scenic miles, every participant will be rewarded with a medal for their efforts. The entry fee is €20 for adults and €16 for children up to 17 years. Children under the age of five can join for free.
On the road of four scenic routes
On 20 August, participants of the 49th Silvretta Ferwall March select their preferred marching route from four distances and thus also their medal colour. The "supreme discipline", the particularly challenging "Marathon-Route", leads across the Zeinisjoch and over the Grieskogeljoch at 2,698 metres, as well as up to the Larein Alpe. The 42.195 kilometres and 1,955 metres climb are rewarded with a gold medal and an honorary certificate. The "Ferwall-Route" leads along 32.7 kilometres and 1,199 metres climb across the Zeinisjoch and the Grieskogeljoch and also rewards participants with gold. The silver "Silvretta-Route" takes marches across the summit of Breitspitze, with 19.2 kilometres and around 618 metres climb.
For those who prefer a shorter, easy hike, the Bronze-Tour is just the way to go: the pram-friendly "Family-Route” with a mere 150 metres climb over 13.5 kilometres and an exciting treasure hunt for children is the perfect route for the whole family.
Depending on the route, the start of the Silvretta Ferwall March is between 6 and 11 o'clock. The entry fee of €20 for adults and €16 for children aged 5 to 17 includes beverages and light snacks with regional specialities from the “GenussRegion” at the refreshment stations, a medal in the colour of the chosen route, admission to the indoor waterpark as well as discounted admission to Alpinarium Galtür.
