With 158 participating alpine dairies from Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and Liechtenstein, a total of 415 cheese varieties submitted and 3,000 visitors, the 2025 International Alpine Cheese Olympics set several new records. This made the event the largest in its history – and the undisputed meeting place for dairy farmers, cheese lovers and visitors from across the Alpine region.
The best alpine cheeses in the Alpine region
The coveted Senner harps in gold, silver and bronze were awarded by an international jury of experts who evaluated the raw milk cheeses submitted. The daily victory in the hard cheese category went to Burgeralm (Austria) with its mountain cheese. In the semi-hard cheese category, Alp Sattel (Switzerland) impressed with its Bündner Alpkäse and took gold.
Children's jury awards the Dreikäsehoch Prize
A particular highlight was the decision of the children's jury. With their trained sense of taste, the young tasters chose Alp Astra's Tamangur (Italy) as the winner of the Dreikäsehoch Prize. The semi-hard cheese submitted impressed the jury as the "best children's cheese in the Alpine region in 2025".
Ceremonial entrance with distinguished guests
The festive parade marked the atmospheric start of the event. Anton Mattle (Governor of Tyrol), Margreth Falkner (Member of the National Council) and Hermann Huber (Mayor of Galtür) were in attendance, entering the marquee and emphasising the importance of the Alpine Cheese Olympics for the region.
Looking back, on behalf of Landjugend Galtür, I am delighted that the event was such a resounding success. We are particularly proud of this year's record numbers, which impressively underline the importance of the Alpine Cheese Olympics. My sincere thanks go to all participants and contributors whose commitment and enthusiasm made this special day possible. The atmosphere was exuberant, the party a real highlight, and we are already looking forward to 2026, when the 32nd Alpine Cheese Olympics will take place," said Martin Wagner, chairman of the Galtür Rural Youth Association.
